The experience
In Villa Castelli among the notes of the organetto
Villa Castelli is a small town in the province of Brindisi where the former agro-pastoral economy has left a deep imprint on the culture of the area, allowing repertoires and practices of traditional music to be preserved and handed down to new generations. We are talking in particular about the diatonic organetto, an instrument that has an ancient and deep-rooted history in Villa Castelli and is still played by many, including very young people.
By participating in this “roots workshop” you will be able to get in touch through traditional music, dance and singing with the local culture and with an instrument linked to the identity of the area, which accompanied and still accompanies the festive moments and conviviality of the local community, and which is still celebrated in August during the “Organetto Festival.”
Through the notes of the organetto you will also be able to retrace the journey of emigrants who often packed this instrument to bring the sounds of their homeland to Italian communities abroad.
