On Tuesday 16 April, and Thursday 17 April, Italea Puglia will take part in two important study days dedicated to roots tourism.
The meeting in Molfetta
On Tuesday, April 16, starting at 6 p.m. at the Diocesan Museum of Molfetta (Bari), the meeting Return tourism: the phenomenon of the Apulians in the World is scheduled, with the presentation of the Italians in the World 2023 Report. The event is organized by the Oll Muvi association, known by the brand “I Love Molfetta”.
The 2023 edition of the Migrantes Foundation’s Italians in the World Report focuses on the themes of mobility and return, with a special on “differently present and re-present”.
After the institutional greetings of Rosa Quaranta (Apulia Region, Apulians in the World Office) and Saverio Tammacco (vice president of the Budget Commission of the Puglia Region) will introduce the evening by Delfina Licata, RIM curator of the Migrantes Foundation, Monsignor Giuseppe de Candia, Migrantes Diocese Office, Antonio Albanese of the Madonna dei Martiri Society in New Jersey, Roberto Pansini, president of the Oll Muvi association and CIM Puglia Confederation of Italians in the World. Speakers, therefore, are: Marina Gabrieli, national coordinator of the Italea project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Giorgia Salicandro, editor of RIM and contact person for Italea Puglia, Lucrezia Modugno of the Molfetta Tourist Info Point, Vincenzo Germinario , president of the Molfetta Patronal Festivals Committee, Daniele di Fronzo , president of the Capursesi nel Mondo association; moderated by Lucrezia d’Ambrosio, journalist.
Giorgia Salicandro of Italea Puglia will share the salient themes presented in the essay “Apulia. A constellation ready to shine: the challenge of roots tourism” (RIM 2019) and will present the Italea Puglia project, part of the MAECI territorial network.

The meeting in Taranto
On Thursday, April 17 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., the first International Meeting on Roots Tourism will take place in Taranto at the Ionian Department of the University of Bari Aldo Moro. The day of study, testimonies and projects conceived by the journalist Tiziana Grassi (president of the Turismo delle Radici association in Taranto and province) aims to create or implement stable cultural and socio-economic connections between the “two Italys”, i.e. between Italian communities inside and outside the borders.
The morning panels are dedicated to the presentation of the 2024 Year of Italian roots in the world conceived by the MAECI as part of the PNRR Tourism of the Roots project, and to the “tourism of the territory”, while those in the afternoon will welcome studies on the themes of mobility, roots tourism and global citizenship, with the presentation of the Italians in the World Report and other research.
We will be present in the morning panel dedicated to Italea. At the meeting, which was reported by journalists Angelo Di Leo and Michele Tursi, speakers Giovanni Maria De Vita, head of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s Italea project, Marina Gabrieli, national coordinator of the Italeam project Attilio Ardito , regional coordinator for Puglia of the Italea project, Giorgia Salicandro, journalist, contact person of the Italea Puglia project, Rosa Manzo, associate professor of international law at the University of Oslo, conclusions by Giovanni Battafarano, former mayor of Taranto and parliamentarian.
Giorgia Salicandro will present the Italea Puglia project in the speech “The Heel, beyond the postcard: itineraries, activities and events of Italea Puglia”.
