August in Carpino (Foggia), one of the most characteristic villages of the Gargano National Park, is animated by two events dedicated to tradition.

The Carpino in Folk (www.carpinoinfolk.com) is a festival featuring popular music held this year from August 8 to August 11.

The festival starts from Carpino’s sonnets and their authors and performers, including the Cantori di Carpino, now famous and known in Italy and Europe, emblem of Carpine’s popular culture.
The festival has grown over the years, enriching itself with national and international artistic proposals,

collaborations with schools, associations and institutions and also with the communities of Carpino residents abroad.
During the days of the event, workshops and musical performances await you that are divided between the narrow streets of the historic center and the welcoming Piazza del Popolo.

From 15 to 18 August, on the other hand, it is time for the patron saint celebrations in honour of Maria Santissima and San Rocco, with music, fireworks and festive spirit.

On August 16 at 10.30 a.m. mass is celebrated in the Church of San Cirillo d’Alessandria, followed by a processional procession towards the Church of San Nicola di Mira accompanied by the Carpinese Band Corps; at the end of the procession there is a fireworks display in Piazza del Popolo offered by the devotees.

On August 18 the appointment is with the traditional Palo della Cuccagna in Piazza del Popolo.
Concerts follow in the streets of the town.

A devotion and an ancestral bond binds the town to the patron saints, a visceral bond that is also very much felt by emigrants who often return to their country of origin on this occasion.

The events received the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the realization of cultural activities in favor of Italian descendants, to be carried out for the Year of Italian Roots.
