From July to September go to Uggiano la Chiesa and the hamlet of Casamassella, in the province of Lecce, to discover the food and wine tradition of the area with the workshop “The cuisine of the roots: food is identity”.
The calendar follows the most important events in the town: the Patronal Feast of Santa Maria Maddalena held from 21 to 23 July, the Patronal Feast of San Gaetano which is celebrated from 6 to 7 August and the Sagra dei Santi Medici, on 26 and 27 September.
In the wonderful spaces of the Le Costantine Foundation and at the “Santi Medici” Committee, dive into traditional ingredients, carefully selected and made available by local producers, and among the recipes and anecdotes typical of the kitchens of the past.
Each of the typical dishes made will become the protagonist of a short film, subtitled in the foreign languages of the communities of Uggianesi abroad, thanks to the collaboration and active participation of foreign citizens and translators who live on site, and then shared with the communities of Italian-descendants.
The main “guests” at the table of the roots are in fact them, the Uggianesi in the world, residing in the United States, Holland, Argentina and Switzerland.
A convivial activity with great educational but also “sentimental” value, to reduce distances through flavor.
For updates on all the details and related initiatives, including culinary tours and walks in the city, visit the Municipality website.
The event received the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the realization of cultural activities in favor of Italian descendants, to be carried out for the Year of Italian Roots.
