The Feast of St. Nicholas and the tribute to Lucio Battisti in Corigliano d'Otranto

On 22 and 23 August, Corigliano d’Otranto (Lecce) in the heart of Grecìa Salentina, celebrates the ancient bond of the town and the entire Hellenic-speaking area of Salento with St. Nicholas, bishop of Myra whose cult unites East and West.
A particularly heartfelt bond in Corigliano, where the seventeenth-century church dedicated to the saint stands, characterized by a precious mosaic floor inspired by the Romanesque one of the Cathedral of Otranto.
The people of Corigliano also remember the intervention of St. Nicholas on the occasion of a hurricane that hit the town in 1727.

The celebrations begin on August 22 with the Holy Mass animated by the parish choir and the traditional procession, followed by the Great Band Concert City of Castellaneta; Of course, there is no shortage of spectacular fireworks.
On August 23, the Festival continues to alternate religious events, such as the solemn Eucharistic Celebration at 7 p.m., and civil events, such as the music of the two “competitor” bands, that of Castellaneta and the Grand Band Concert of the City of Conversano, between fireworks and the characteristic illuminations.

But to close the Festival is an appointment with the “tradition of the twentieth century”: the concert of Lato B, the project animated by Gianluca De Rubertis, Leo Pari, Dario Ciffo, Lino Gitto which pays homage to one of the greatest Italian singer-songwriters, Lucio Battisti.
A way to recall the “contemporary roots” of Italianness in the world and an opportunity for transversal appeal that unites all generations.

The event received the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the realization of cultural activities in favor of Italian descendants, to be carried out for the Year of Italian Roots.
